FIGMA Design Affinity 1.0
On June 20th, 2018 some of the students of University of Uyo gathered at the Xpress Technologies Hub Uyo to learn how to design using figma. The event themed: “Design Affinity” with great support from Ingressive and Figma was a great success with about 40 attendees.
Nsikan Etukudoh kicked off the meetup with a quick introduction to Figma.
He gave a brief preview of what it takes to design using figma. Immediately after him, we welcomed on stage Promise Somto who taught the attendees the relevance of using icons and colors in design.
Our last speaker of the day Joshua Okoro spoke on Prototyping with Figma. All speakers touched on the important aspects of things to do to make good designs, the things to look out for when making a design and most importantly designing with empathy. At the end, they took questions from the audience before kicking off a round of Kahoot game. The kahoot game was made up of 5 design related questions and 5 Ingressive related questions and it was so much fun to see the joyful cheers of realizing who got the questions right. At the end of the game, the winners won some swags for themselves.
Next up was the design lab where the attendees were divided into four teams, come up with an idea and design it. The lab was centered around making the attendees get their hands busy with practical designs. At the end of it, they demoed their designs via the prototype tool.
Team 1 — They were about 10 in this team. They worked on a website for experts where one can log on to, sign up and chat up with people who can help in the different fields of life.
Team 2 — They were 4 in this team. They came up with a design: which is a portfolio page of a person who works with starthubs and founders.
Team 3 — About 6 team members who came up with a dating site where people of the opposite sex can meet online.
Team 4 — They were 6 in this team and they came up with a sports site where one can watch videos about cycling, read blogs and read books etc.
After the design session, the event quickly came to an end with Mfonobong Umondia thanking everyone for making out time to attend the event. After the event, there were snacks and drinks to go round along with some more figma swags.
